Cool things to do in London besides all the tourist stuff

Marquee club. All the British bands started there.

-

Fish & Chips and Abbey Road

-

See a play. Sounds gay, but there's nothing like seeing a live performance in an old London theater. See "Mousetrap" at St. Martin's Theatre.

-

Do a Jack the Ripper walking tour in Whitechapel in the evening with these guys. Try to get "Dickie" for your guide.

-

Get out to Wiltshire, west of London. Lots of ancient, mysterious, megalithic sites. And if you're lucky, a crop circle.

-

Try "Ain't nothin' but the blues' in Kingly Street, a great pub with live blues music every night of the week and normally free if you're in early.

Also the 100 Club on Oxford Street, been there since the 40s and a great music venue.

-

Have a Pub lunch in Paddington

-

Get out of London and the main tourist places; see the rest of the country, which is very different.

You can travel by bus or train, or even fly up to Scotland.

Basic tips for tourists in London...

Don't look up.
Don't point at stuff.
Don't wear a camera around your neck.
Don't wear a bumbag or rucksack.
Keep your hand in your pocket and on your wallet in crowded areas.
If you need a taxi, ALWAYS use a black cab.
The best way to get around is by tube (get a daily travel pass), only bother with buses if you're taking an open top tour.

Also, buses are slow, uncomfortable and full of tourists. The tube is a lot quicker and easier. Get yourself a London A-Z, it shows the nearest tube station to your destinations, they're sold at most tube stations and at newspaper stands, or if you have an iPhone, get the app : https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/greater-london-a-z/id527236885?mt=8

Now, what happens if you point at stuff?

Hehe, you become a tourist and vulnerable. The idea is to blend in as much as possible.
